Source triangulation

Confirming a claim by checking it against multiple genuinely independent sources.

Definition

Triangulation is the practice of corroborating a fact through sources that could plausibly have reported separately — different editorial structures, different countries of origin, different funding bases. Wire-service syndication does not count as triangulation; thirty outlets running the same Reuters story are one source, not thirty.

Why this matters when reading conflict news

Most claims look more solid than they are because they appear in many places. Real triangulation usually drops the count substantially.
