Malinformation

True information stripped of context or amplified to harm.

Definition

Malinformation is information that is factually correct but is presented or selected in a way that serves a hostile purpose: doxxing, selective leaks, decontextualised quotes, real footage paired with false claims.

Why this matters when reading conflict news

Some of the most effective wartime information operations use real material. The defence is provenance and context, not denial of the underlying fact.
