Funding and ownership

A short, honest statement of who runs ConflictClarifier and how it is paid for. We would rather under-claim and update than over-claim.

The short version

ConflictClarifier is a solo-operated, self-funded independent project. There are no grants, no sponsors, no advertisers, and no employer relationship behind it. If any of that changes, the change will appear on this page before it appears anywhere else.

Who operates the site

ConflictClarifier is operated by a single person who designed, built, edits, and pays for it. There is no legal entity beyond that — the site is run personally, not under a company structure. If and when that changes (incorporation, additional editorial staff, formal masthead), the change will be published here with the date it took effect. The operator can be reached via the contact page.

Funding model

ConflictClarifier is funded by its operator. Specifically:

  • No grants. No money has been accepted from foundations, NGOs, governments, intelligence agencies, or political organisations.
  • No sponsors. No company, party to a conflict, or interest group is paying for placement, coverage, or favourable treatment.
  • No advertisers. The site does not currently run display ads, programmatic ads, sponsored content, or paid-placement source listings.
  • No employer relationship. The operator is not paid by any organisation to produce, shape, or amplify the work on this site.
  • Costs are personal.Hosting, infrastructure, language-model credits, and data-provider subscriptions are paid out of the operator's own funds.

If the funding model changes — for example, the site adds reader donations, a subscription tier, transparent advertising, or accepts an institutional grant — the change will be disclosed here, with the date and the editorial-independence implications, before it goes live elsewhere on the site.

Advertising and sponsorship

ConflictClarifier does not currently run sponsored content, native ads, or paid-placement source listings. If this changes, sponsored material will be visibly labelled and will not influence verification status, source reliability labels, or which events appear on dashboards.

Conflicts of interest

  • No member of the editorial team will accept paid speaking, consulting, or advisory relationships with parties to a conflict the site covers without that relationship being disclosed on this page.
  • Where a team member has a personal connection to a country, party, or organisation covered on the site, they recuse themselves from final decisions on related verification and framing.
  • We will not accept funding from government propaganda offices, intelligence agencies, or actors directly involved in the conflicts we cover.

Editorial independence

Funders, advertisers, and partners — present and future — have no editorial input. They do not see drafts, do not approve verification changes, and do not influence which events or claims are surfaced. Any attempt to exert editorial pressure will be disclosed on this page.

Affiliate and partner relationships

ConflictClarifier does not currently run affiliate links. If any are added (e.g. to referenced books or data services), they will be labelled and will not appear inside editorial content (events, claims, verification methodology, briefings).

Political independence

ConflictClarifier is not affiliated with any political party, government, intelligence service, militant group, lobbying organisation, or campaign. Editorial decisions are made by the operator and reviewed against the editorial policy.

Why this page is structured this way

Trust-and-safety best practice is to publish ownership and funding details up front in plain language. A solo-operated, self-funded site is not unusual on the open web; pretending otherwise — or burying the structure behind corporate-sounding language — would be worse than stating it directly. Misleading claims about funding are unrecoverable. Stating the actual setup, and committing to update it on change, is recoverable. We have chosen the recoverable option.

If you have evidence of an undisclosed conflict

Tell us. See the contact page. We'd rather find out from a reader than from a press cycle.
