Humanitarian corridor

An agreed route or window through which civilians and aid can move safely.

Definition

A humanitarian corridor is an agreement — usually time- and geography-limited — between parties to a conflict to permit civilian evacuation, aid delivery, or both. Corridors fail frequently, both from bad faith and from genuine deconfliction breakdowns.

Why this matters when reading conflict news

Whether a corridor exists, holds, and is actually used is often a clearer indicator of conflict trajectory than rhetorical positions on either side.
